His Excellency Ambassador Abayomi Gabriel Olonisakin hails from Gboyin Local Government Area of Ekiti State in Nigeria. He was appointed on 22nd June, 2021, as High Commissioner of the Federal Republic of Nigeria to the Republic of Cameroon. He arrived Cameroon on 6th July, 2021, and presented copies of his Letters of Accreditation to the host Minister of External Relations, H. E. Lejeune Mbella Mbella on 13th July, 2021.

Before his appointment, Ambassador Olonisakin served as Chief of Defence Staff of the Federal Republic of Nigeria from 13th July 2015 to 26th January, 2021, when he retired. He joined the Nigerian Military School, Zaria in 1973 as a boy soldier and was later admitted into the Nigerian Defence Academy to commence cadet training on 3rd January 1979, as a member of 25 Regular Combatant Course. He was commissioned on 18th December 1981 as a Second Lieutenant and posted to the Nigerian Army Signals. His Excellency rose through the ranks, holding Command, Staff and Instructional appointments in the Nigerian Army. He holds a BSc in Electronic Engineering and a Diploma in Electronic and Telecoms Engineering, from Obafemi Awolowo University, Ile Ife – Nigeria.     

Ambassador Olonisakin is happily married to Mrs. Omobolanle Olonisakin and blessed with children and grand-children.
